Intrepid scientist Dr. Wilfred Glendon of Britain journeys to a remote area of Tibet in search of a rare species of phosphorescent moonflower. The Sherpas flee in fear as he and Mr Renwick (Williams) are given a warning of evil things afoot in the forbidden forest. At the moment the doctor is poised to get the rare plant an animal-like creature spring upon him. He manages to ward off the thing stabbing it with a knife, but not before he is bitten on the arm.
After returning to London, Dr. Glendon is paid a visit by Dr. Yogami (Oland, better known for his roles as Asian sleuth Charlie Chan). He tells of his tireless search for the plants in Tibet too. When asked if they have met before, Dr. Glendon is alarmed to hear it was one time in Tibet in the dark! The stranger goes on to say the plant is the only cure for Werewolfism or Lycanthropobia caused by the bite of another with the affliction, as he touches the doctor's now healed arm. Further, he states that those closest and dearest to one stricken are the most in danger. Dr. Glendon fears for his wife Lisa (Hobson) who has strayed from him to his friend Ames (Matthews).
The doctor changes into a werewolf with the full moon and seeks the restorative power of the moonflower but it is missing from the laboratory. He searches for his wife at the home of her aunt, climbing up the exterior. He runs away when the aunt screams but he kills a prostitute he chances to encounter. He lays low in a rented flat worried about harming Lisa, but when he transforms he attacks her and Ames. Dr. Yogami is out of antidote for his Lycanthropobia and approaches Scotland Yard with his unbelievable tale of a werewolf at fault for the recent killings. He goes back to his room, transforms into a werewolf and kills the maid. Now at Dr. Glendon's lab the two doctors battle for the precious plant before Yogami is slain by the doctor in werewolf form. Glendon then goes looking for his wife and is about to do her harm when he is fatally wounded by a policeman's gun. He reverts to his human self and his wife is shocked by the discovery.
