| Review Summary and Plot Commentary about Silverado |
This Western is about a corrupt town and the bad guy who is killing and extorting the locals. Paden (Kline) is a partner in a saloon along with Stella (Hunt), Emmett (Glenn) is a rough and rugged drifter, Jake (Costner) is the wild young buck brother of Paden, and Mal Johnson (Glover) is the brother of a saloon girl Rae whose father is shot in cold blood by Cobb's men. All four men meet up in Silverado where Cobb's (Dennehy) is a strong man for the local landowner who runs the town. John T. Langstone (Cleese) is the puppet sheriff and “Slick” Stanhope (Goldblum) is a gambler and one of Cobb's henchmen. The four comrades team up to rid the town of Cobb and his cohorts who have made life in Silverado miserable. Rae is shot and lays dying when she kills Slick. A house is set ablaze to cover murders that have been committed and that sets in motion a series of showdowns between the good guys and the bad ones. Emmett and Jake settle things with several of the baddies in town. Finally, Paden faces off with “new sheriff” Cobb in a gunfight to settle the issue once and for all.
