Review Summary and Plot Commentary about Flaming Star
This Elvis film was made in 1960 and is considered by many to be one of his best. This is because it is a serious movie that doesn't have the same predictable plot as all the musicals. Though this does have a bit of music at the beginning there is none throughout the rest of it. The film is a western, in which Elvis plays a half-breed Indian, his father white, and his mother Indian. He has always had a mixed up life, especially when he has a full-white half-brother, his father's son by a previous marriage. The locals tolerate him out of respect for his father but are always worried that his mother's people will bring trouble. One day, his mother is deathly ill and needs a doctor. The townspeople prevent the doctor from going to their ranch. When he later tricks the doctor into coming, they arrive too late to save his mother. He goes on the warpath with his mother's people to get revenge.
