| Review Summary and Plot Commentary about Eye of the Beholder |
EYE OF THE BEHOLDER, inspired by the Marc Behm novel, is a film written and directed by the Australian director Stephan Elliott (Priscilla) in 1999.
Stephen Wilson works for the British secret services in Washington D.C. He has become a master in the art of observing and hearing without being noticed. Joanna Eris, a young woman who's just killed the man Stephen was supposed to spy on, becomes obsessed with him. Stephen follows Joanna through the States and starts his own investigation. By listening to her private conversations, Stephen understands that she's become a serial killer after having been abandoned by her father at the age of nine. Still unnoticed by Joanna, Stephen interferes more and more frequently in the young woman's life, acting more like a guardian than like a neutral observer. When Joanna is on the verge of getting married in San Francisco, Stephen will provoke a car accident that'll cause the death of the fiancé.
