| Review Summary and Plot Commentary about The House on Turk Street |
THE HOUSE ON TURK STREET is based on a short story by Dashiell Hammett and was directed by Bob Rafelson (Five Easy Pieces) in 2002. The movie was renamed "No Good Deed" when it hit the video/DVD market.
Jack Friar, a policeman, is about to go on vacation when his neighbour asks him to find her 15 years old daughter who's left home three days before. Reluctantly, Jack starts his investigation and stumbles upon Mr. & Mrs. Quarre who invites him home. But the Quarres are members of a gang of thieves, preparing the swindling of a local bank, who falsely think that Jack is after them.
Jack is soon tied up to a chair and has to witness the last preparations of the gang. While Tyrone and Hoop are driving to the bank, Erin is left behind in the house with the policeman. Jack and Erin, who are both excellent musicians, are soon attracted one by the other but Jack is unable to grasp whether Erin is manipulating him.
After Tyrone has managed to transfer 10 million dollars, with the help of an accomplice banker, to his own account, he's got some problems recovering the floppy disk containing the data from the banker who's soon killed by the psychopathic Hoop. Tyrone asks then Hoop to look for Erin and kill the policeman but Hoop won't make it as Jack Friar kills him when he arrives home. The other members of the gang start to kill each other as they see that Tyrone is trying to frame them.
