| Review Summary and Plot Commentary about The Hollywood Knights |
This comedy is a combination of American Graffiti, American Pie and Animal House It is a tasteless but very funny look at the misadventures of students at Beverly Hills High School, circa 1965.
It's Halloween, and not only are students ready to party but they're also up in arms over the demise of a local drive-in. Led by Newboomb Turk (Robert Wohl), they try to foil plans to close down their favorite eatery by spiking the punch at a stuffy adult party (I won't say with what) and playing pranks on the hapless local cops. At the same time, their raging hormones persuade them to have sex, play childish pranks involving lots of scatological humor, and disrupt the school's annual talent show with a supremely untalented but highly vulgar "performance."
There are also two semi-serious subplots. One involves the older brother of one of the kids who's leaving for Vietnam in the morning. The other dwells on a romantic spat between a wannabe Hollywood star (Michaelle Pfeiffer) and her boyfriend (Tony Danza). While it's interesting to see these performers so early in their careers, these serious scenes are fairly boring and definitely play second fiddle to the ribald hijinks perpetrated by the high schoolers.
