| Review Summary and Plot Commentary about Beaumarchais the Scoundrel |
BEAUMARCHAIS, THE SCOUNDREL (Beaumarchais, l'insolent) is a movie directed by the French director Edouard Molinaro in 1996.
This biopic describes 12 years (1772-1784) of the incredible life of Pierre-Augustin Caron de Beaumarchais, above all known as the author of such stage plays as "The Barber of Seville" or "The Marriage of Figaro". But Beaumarchais was also sent in England by Louis the XVth as a spy and ran guns and cannons to the American revolutionaries. His plays were so bold for that time that he spent months, on several occasions, in the French prisons. The themes and the ideas treated in his writings were undoubtedly an inspiration for all the great figures of the French revolution.
