THE KILLING OF A CHINESE BOOKIE is a film written and directed by John Cassavetes in 1976.
Cosmo Vitelli is the owner of the "Crazy Horse West" strip club in Las Vegas. One night, he loses $23,000 while playing poker at Mort Weil's place. Cosmo doesn't have the money to pay his debt to Mort and his associates who are mobsters. Mort strongly suggests Cosmoget even by performing a hit for the mob. All he has to do is to kill a Chinese bookmaker downtown. Left with no other choices, Cosmo kills the man who's in fact the head of the Chinese Triads of the west coast. Wounded by a bullet, Cosmo comes back to his club only to learn that the mob wants him dead now. However, Vitelli goes on presenting the show every night.
