He-Man has been magically taken from his home at Castle Greyskull and sent to Earth. Skeletor sends his sinister minions to conquer Earth by first finding the key and then destroying He-Man and his allies. He-Man is joined in battle by his companions Man-at-Arms (Cypher) and Teela (Field) in Los Angeles, California against the forces of evil under Skeletor's command.

The heroes meet two California school kids, one an orphaned teen named Julie Winston (Cox), who proves to be a valuable asset in the fight against evil. When Skeletor's underlings, Evil-Lyn (Foster) and Beastman (Carroll), prove to be inept at the task to which they have been sent, the furious overlord arrives with frightening power on Earth to finish the job himself.
