Review Summary and Plot Commentary about Deep Cover
The movie starts out with a young Russell Stevens (Laurence Fishburne) watching his junky father getting shot after robbing a liquor store. The story fast forwards twenty years later where Stevens is now a police officer looking to make a difference. He is sent deep undercover by his boss Gerald Carver who is looking to bust a big drug cartel. Stevens, now going by the name John Hull, goes to Los Angeles and gets involved with a low level drug dealer Eddie (Roger Guenveur Smith) who sets him up with a meeting With David Jason (Jeff Godlblum) to get a kilo of cocaine.

The buy goes bad and Hull gets busted by the cops. While in custody he keeps his mouth shut as detective Taft (Clarence Williams) tries to get information but it doesn't work. At his court hearing David Jason shows up as Hulls attorney and gets the case dismissed immediately. David now trusts Hull because he kept quiet. They strike up a partnership and Jason gives Hull two kilos of a new synthetic drug that they think will sell well. Meanwhile Hull has been reporting back to his boss Carver that his street credibility is sky rocketing and he is getting closer to the top of the food chain. Hull then comes up with a plan to buy twenty kilos so he could flush out drug king pin Hernandez. The drug deal goes sour again with Taft interfering but Hull gets his meeting with Herndandez. He goes back to report this to Carver and they have a big meltdown with Hull quiting the force. This sets everything in motion for the big showdown where Hull, in a turn of events takes down Jason.
