| Review Summary and Plot Commentary about Big Top Pee Wee |
Pee Wee Herman (Reubens) lives in a charming little rural town as an experimental farmer. He still wears his trademark suit and bow tie even when chatting with his talking pig Vance or milking the chocolate milk producing cow. The quirky Pee Wee is engaged to pretty but plain Winnie Johnson (Miller) the local schoolmarm. They seem happy despite his dislike for eating her egg salad sandwiches. The small town is quaintly dull and the stuffy townsfolk are leery of Pee Wee. One day a band of circus folk get dropped into his yard and Pee Wee is happy to have the distraction even though some individuals start to annoy him. Pee Wee is attracted to a sexy trapeze performer from the circus troupe named Gina (Golino) and starts an ill-fated relationship behind his girlfriend's back.
Mace Montana (Kristofferson) leads the ragtag group and proudly introduces his Barbie-sized wife Midge (Tyrrell) to his bewildered host. When the big top tent goes up, the normally standoffish town folk loosen up and enjoy being kids again at the circus. Pee Wee even takes his place among the sideshow freaks along with the dog-faced boy (Del Toro) to be a part of the “greatest show on Earth.” Realizing his mistake when the circus must pull up stakes and move on, Pee Wee comes to his senses and is taken back by a loving Winnie.
