| Review Summary and Plot Commentary about Solaris (2002) |
Most of the crew of a space station in orbit above the distant planet Solaris have disappeared under mysterious circumstances. The survivors are plagued by strange phenomena, including eerie visitors who seem perfectly human and familiar to them. Psychologist Chris Kelvin (Clooney), burdened by the suicide of his young and beloved wife Rheya, is sent to the station to investigate and try to bring back the survivors, but he also gets snared in the strange happenings. He meets Rheya aboard the station, alive and in the flesh, with all their shared memories intact, and the experience is both beautiful and terrifying. Steven Soderbergh wrote and directed this slow remake of the 1972 Tarkovsky classic -- both based on the book by Stanislaw Lem.
