| Review Summary and Plot Commentary about The Incredible Mr. Limpet |
Henpecked and miserable accountant Henry Limpet (Knotts) wants to change his life and be somebody. Unable to enlist in the war effort against Germany, Limpet with his Mr. Magoo-like vision becomes despondent and falls off a Coney Island pier while strolling with his wife Bessie (Cook) and best friend George Stickel (Weston). His eyesight is to blame for both incidents. He gets his wish and turns into a fish, living and breathing under water. He befriends a snail named Crusty (Frees) who gives him helpful advice on how to survive the underwater dangers he will encounter.
Later he has to convince his old pal Stickel, now in the US Navy, that he is the former Limpet now changed to a fish. It is as an ocean dweller he is most happy, helping the US Navy sink German submarines and getting the girl, or rather, fish of his dreams; Ladyfish (MacRae).
