Review Summary and Plot Commentary about Swimming
Lauren Ambrose stars as Frankie, a sexually confused girl in her late teens living in a small, tourist-congested beach town. Frankie's future shows little promise. She and her rigid older brother have inherited their parent's burger joint. Her brother treats her like a slave. She lacks the freedom or courage to make her own life choices.

It's Frankie's dream to buy a car and drive away. But her brother won't let her have her share of the diner's profits.
Frankie deals with the frustration of feeling trapped by experimenting with both straight and lesbian sexual encounters. In the process of "trying to find herself" she all but abandons her best friend for the object of her own obsession--a hot new waitress.

Frankie also meets a nice eccentric guy and hooks up with him. But she blows him off when as she gets increasingly wrapped up in the elusive waitress. Frankie's actions backfire when it becomes clear that the waitress was manipulating her to her own ends.
