Review Summary and Plot Commentary about Marvin's Room
This is an emotional drama starring Diane Keaton as Bessie, a woman who takes care of her elderly father (Hume Cronyn) in Florida. Her sister Lee (Meryl Streep) is having her own family problems in Ohio with her emotional unstable son Hank (Leonardo DiCaprio). Bessie goes to see Dr. Wally (Robert De Niro) and ha takes some blood to rule out if she has a vitamin deficiency. It turns out that she has leukemia. Meanwhile, Hank sets Lee's house on fire after he sets some pictures of her on fire. Hank is then sent to an institution to live. Dr. Wally convinces Bessie to call Lee, who is now living in a church, to come down to Florida and stay with her to see if her or her sons are a match as a bone marrow donor. The rest of the movie is about Hank, Bessie and Lee bonding and learning about each others lives.
