Amy Irving plays an insecure woman who prefers the company of "art" people because she thinks it makes her a better person. Her grandmother thinks she knows better.

Peter Riegert plays a pickle salesman who inherited his fathers business. He courts Amy throughout the film, but she resists him and pawns him off on one of her close friends.
