| Review Summary and Plot Commentary about The Magic of Ordinary Days |
Livy is an unwed mother--her boyfriend is in the war and doesn't want to marry her. Her father sends her to marry a young farmer named Ray. Livy is uncomfortable at first, finding it hard to fit into the simple life. Ray treats Livy well, though he doesn't entirely understand her ways, either. Livy makes friends with two Japenese women from an internment camp. Livy's sister comes to visit, trying to persuade Livy to go home with her when the baby is born. However, Livy can't bring herself to leave Ray.
