Nelson Hibbert thinks he is in line for a big promotion at work. When he doesn't get the new job he verbally attacks his boss who is later killed. Thinking he will be accused of the murder Nelson begins a cross-country journey to clear his name and escape arrest. The police have a video of the crime and track the real killer who just happens to be following Nelson. Meanwhile, Nelson finds new love in a narcaleptic country girl. The pair evade the killer and the police while trying to begin a new life in a small town but their peace is short-lived.
