| Review Summary and Plot Commentary about After the Life |
After "Cavale" and "An Amazing Couple", shot with the same actors, AFTER THE LIFE (Après la vie) is the third installment of the Belgian director Lucas Belvaux 2002 trilogy.
Pascal is police inspector in Grenoble, France. He's married to Agnès, an English teacher. For the last eight years, Pascal has managed to give his wife, a drug addict, her daily dose of morphine. Now when Bruno le Roux, an escaped convict, is seen in the city, Pascal is asked by his drug provider Jacquillat to kill Bruno le Roux without giving him the chance to surrender to the police forces. Jacquillat is afraid that Bruno may talk to the police about their former criminal partnership. Pascal refuses and Jacquillat tells him he won't have any morphine more for his wife until he plays according his rules.
The next days are a nightmare for Agnès who suffers from the lack of morphine and she will even try to buy drugs but lamentably fails. Pascal is torn by his wife's suffering. Furthermore, it seems that nobody around him is able to give him even the slightest dose of drugs.
