This movie is based on the Heiress Patty Hearst. It is strictly the story of her kidnapping from her point of view. She was the daughter of newspaper magnate William Hearst. She was kidnapped and held for ransom by the Symbionese Liberation Army, a radical protest group. The movie shows her kidnapping the subsequent psychological torture she was subject to. This consistent largely of behing locked in a closet for 57 days without being allowed to see her captors or where she was and given very little food. She is ultimately given the choice of leaving or joining them. She choses to join them. The group begins committing crimes to get money to live on and to finance their "revolution". It is initially believed that Patty Hearst was forced to participate, but it was later discovered that she voluntarily joined them.
