Review Summary and Plot Commentary about Paris When It Sizzles
Paris When it Sizzles
Directed by Richard Quine, 1964
Staring William Holden, Audrey Hepburn

This comedy is about a screenwriter writing a screenplay with his secretary and watching the screenplay play out in their minds as it is developed.

Veteran American screenwriter Richard Benson (Holden) goes to Paris to write a major script within three days. Working in his spacious hotel suite, he has no idea what to write and turns to his attractive young French secretary (Hepburn) for ideas. While enjoying the food, wine and sights of Paris, the two begin to concoct a comedy about a master criminal who is attracted to and falls in love with a beautiful Parisian girl while planning his crime. The movie alternates between the growing real life attraction between Benson and Simpson as he writes the screenplay with her typing it and the growing attraction between the criminal (in the person of Benson) and the Parisian girl (in the person of Simpson) as they develop and visualize the scenes.   The viewer is treated to two stories in one.
