| Review Summary and Plot Commentary about Because of Winn Dixie |
This charmer features a beautiful young girl named Opal, played by AnnaSophia Robb. Her father, played by Jeff Daniels, is the new town preacher. The church is an ex-convenience store and they use lawn chairs for pews. Opal's mother left when she was 3 years old and she has been missing her mother for a long 7 years. Opal goes to the Winn Dixie for her father one day and there is a dog causing quite a commotion. The dog runs through the store knocking over food, fruits and vegetables and cans. The Winn Dixie manager tells someone to call the pound but Opal clams him as her very own Winn Dixie. Winn Dixie is good company for this new girl in town and through Winn Dixie's companionship and sometimes, outrageous behavior, this duo brings the town some happiness and smiles.
They have a few adventures: going to church together, visiting the library, playing ball, planning a party and getting through a thunderstorm. Winn Dixie brings out the good in others and softens their hearts.
