| Review Summary and Plot Commentary about People I Know |
Al Pacino stars as resourceful and seasoned publicist named Eli Wurman who's spent a lifetime cleaning up his clients problems. Eli is reaching middle age. He is losing his contacts and doesnt have the pull or the clients he used to have, except for his last client Cary Launer (Ryan O'Neal). Cary comes to see Eli and tells him he needs some help with this actress/model wannabe Jilli Hopper (Tea Leoni). Eli agrees and bails Jilli out of jail. He then starts to take her to the airport where Launer had a private jet waiting to send Jilli back to the west coast but Jilli freaks out and they wind up at an after hours party. After leaving there Eli take Jilli back to her hotel room where Eli pops a handful of pills and starts to pass out in the tub. He think he sees Jilli being raped and murdered. The next day, while at his doctors office he finds out Jilli overdosed. As this is happening Eli is struggling to put a benefit together and is dealing with his dead brothers widow, Victoria Gray (Kim Basinger). Launer shows up at Eli's office and tells him he wants to run for senator. Eli scoffs at the idea but Launer is serious and asks if Jilli left anything for him. Turns out the crime he's witnessed involves the most powerful and influential people in the country and Jilli had a video of their misdoings.
