| Review Summary and Plot Commentary about The Sword of Doom |
THE SWORD OF DOOM (Dai-bosatsu tôge) is a Japanese movie directed by Kihachi Okamoto in 1965. The film is about a few episodes of the life of Ryunosuke Tsukue, a cold-hearted samurai who is a master in sword fighting.
Tsukue challenged a rival, Bunnojo, to a dueling exhibition. Bunnojo's wife, Ohama, begs him to let her husband win the duel. Tsukue promises her that he will lose if she has sex with him. Nevertheless, Tsukue kills Bunnojo during the duel and also most of Bonnojo's comrades who ambush him after the fight.
Two years later, Ohama is Tsukue's wife. Tsukue is now a member of the Shindo organization, a bunch of samurais looking for more power and he is mostly used as a killer by the organisation. But Hyoma, Bunnojo's younger brother, is in town and trains with the master fencer Simada (Toshiro Mifune) waiting for the right moment to challenge Tsukue.
