| Review Summary and Plot Commentary about Uptown Girls |
This movie is a light comedy/drama. Brittany Murphy plays Molly, daughter of a famous rock star. One day she wakes up to find her accountant has made off with all her money. In desperation she is forced to take a job to make ends meet. She takes a job as a nanny, to look after the precocious "Rae" (played by Dakota Fanning), daughter of a rock star, played by Heather Locklear. Rae is used to being passed around and handed off and generally being ignored by her mother. Her father is on life support in another room. At first she is very mean to Molly and accepts her only on a trial basis. But in a predictable way, the two grow very found of each other, and it is Molly that Rae turns to in a crisis and not her mother. After the crisis is over Molly is able to get through to her mother on what Rae really needs.
