| Review Summary and Plot Commentary about Good News |
In this classic Hollywood musical, a period film taking place in 1927, students at fictional Tait University are interested most in love and football. When the captain of the football team has his eye on a new sorority member, an ultra-sophisticated and snobby rich girl, he enrolls in French class to win her love. Getting his first French lesson from the tomboyish library assistant, he falls for her instead, but continues to pursue the spoiled one.
Their relationship strained, the bookish girl finally agrees to tutor the football captain in French to keep him in the playoffs. Each fights from saying how they really feel about each other until the last moment. With his engagement approaching, will he turn down money and social standing for true love?
