Review Summary and Plot Commentary about Narc
An undercover narcotics officer quits after accidentally shooting a pregnant woman. He's brought back to help a cop solve his partner's murder.
They find two drug dealers who are the main suspects.
The dead cop's partner plants the murder weapon in the dealers' car. He beats them to make them confess and plans to torture them.
The dealers tell the other cop that the dead cop was killed by his partner.
Trying to stop the dead cop's partner from torturing and killing the dealers, the narco cop shoots him.
Just before he dies, the cop finally tells the narco cop the truth; that his partner, working undercover, became a junkie. Feeling desperate, he kills himself. His partner, trying to protect the cop's reputation and pension, covered up the suicide and pinned the 'murder' on the two drug dealers.

Nick Tellis (Jason Patric) is a narcotics cop in Detroit with a minor drug problem. On the streets one day he is ratted out and a drug pusher tries to kill him. Tellis shoots to kill and hits a bystander thus ending his career.

Eighteen months later the police call him back in to help solve the murder of another narcotics cop. Tellis agrees to take on the case because he needs a job. He is partnered with Henry Oak (Ray Liotta), a hard-hitting cop with years of experience at beating up the bad guys.

Tellis and Oak follow the few leads they have and track down some drug pushers who knew the murdered cop. This turns them on to another drug user who tries to kill them and another drug pusher who accidentally kills himself in a tub while smoking crack out of a shotgun.

The detectives put together the few clues they have and trace them back to a couple of long-time losers working at a chop shop. There we learn that the murdered cop was a drug user himself and had blown the cover of Tellis. Tellis and Oak then battle each other over how to deal with these criminals and in the process they solve the case but not before one of them is killed.
