| Review Summary and Plot Commentary about To End All Wars |
Based on the book by Ernest Gordon, "To End All Wars" is the story about captured Allied POW's struggle to survive in a Thailand concentration camp. The story is told through Ernest Gordon's (Ciaran McMenamin) eyes but there are many character arcs to be told in this docudrama. After the troops have been captured American Lt. Jim Reardon (Keifer Sutherland) wants to escape into the jungle and some of the guys want to do that but Ernest convinces him it's not a wise move. They are soon forced to build a railroad through the Burmese Jungle. There is a small faction that still wants to escape but Ernest starts teaching classes, talking about Plato and Shakespeare. The men find solace in the teachings and work harder on the railroad. The faction attempts their escape but don't succeed. The escapees are killed while the other prisoners become sensitive and forgive their captors.
