| Review Summary and Plot Commentary about The Isle |
THE ISLE (Seom) is a Korean movie written and directed by Kim Ki-duk in 2000. This film won numerous prices in Film festivals during the years 2000 and 2001.
The setting is a lake where fishermen can rent little floating houses. The owner of these houses is a young woman who never speaks to her customers; she sells them baits and doesn't mind satisfying their sexual needs at night for a price.
She falls in love with a man who has rented one of the houses. He doesn't speak much also, doesn't seem to like fishing and spends his time fiddling with his fishing gear. One day, he tries to commit suicide by swallowing a pair of hooks and his saved by the youg woman who cures him. Both engage in a passionate love affair which will be strenghthened when they cause the accidental death of two people willing to disturb their relations.
