| Review Summary and Plot Commentary about Fever Pitch (2005) |
(This is an Ameriocan adaptation of an English book/film.)
Ben (Fallon) is an obsessed member of Red Sox Nation and has been for 23 years. He meets Lindsey (Barrymore), a successful careerwoman and they hit it off well; she even accepts his love affair with the Sox.
The pair are wrong for each in many ways (she has money, he is a poor teacher; he is a fanatic, she has no interest in the game; their friends are from different worlds) but they make each other happy. Lindsey attends many games and bring her laptop and Ben even misses a Yankees game to be with Lindsey. But Ben continues to schedule his life around the team schedule and Lindsey can't compete.
Their relationship turns sour when the Red Sox win a big game and Ben is upset that he spent that night with Lindsey instead of at Fenway. The pair split as they realise his obsession might be insurmountable.
