| Review Summary and Plot Commentary about The Gathering |
THE GATHERING is a British-American production directed by Brian Gilbert in 2002.
The setting is a small village on the western coast of Great Britain. A major archaelogical find happens when a church built during the first century, buried in the hills, is accidentally discovered. The local bishop urges the scientist Simon Kirkman to keep it secret as long as the reason why this church was buried is not found out.
In the meantime, the Kirkmans host Christina Ricci, a young woman Marion Kirkman has hit with her car. Christina suffers from amnesia and hallucinations involving the inhabitants of the town. After a few days, she becomes very close to the son of the Kirkmans, Michael. During the annual fair, Frederick Argyle, a local auto mechanic who was molested as a child, becomes mad and starts to kill anyone crossing his path. It seems that his ultimate goal is to murder the young Michael whom Christina Ricci will have to protect when Argyle hunts them in the woods.
