| Review Summary and Plot Commentary about Fresh Bait |
FRESH BAIT (L'Appât) a.k.a. "The Bait" is a French movie co-written and directed by Bertrand Tavernier in 1994. This film earned the Golden Bear at the 1995 Berlin International Film Festival.
Nathalie, her boyfriend Eric, and their friend Bruno live in the same flat in Paris. They use to dream about going to the U.S. and opening a store in Miami but, for the time being, only Nathalie's got a job as a shop assistant while both boys are unemployed. Every night, Nathalie goes to the same bar hoping to be introduced to wealthy people.
Tired of being broke, Eric suggests to his friends to use Nathalie as a bait, to follow her after she's hooked a rich guy and, then, to rob the victim in his apartment. After a few failed tries, they manage to enter the flat of a lawyer they will torture to death when they discover that there is money hidden in his apartment. The next night, they use the same scheme to enter Richard Berry's flat and they also will coldly murder their victim. This is a true story.
