| Review Summary and Plot Commentary about Oldboy |
OLDBOY is a Korean movie co-written and directed by Chan-wook Park (Joint Security Area, Sympathy for Mr. Vengeance) in 2003. This film earned the Grand Prize of the Jury of the 2004 Cannes Film Festival and five South Korean Academy Awards.
One evening, in 1986, Dae-su Oh is kidnapped and locked in a room. During 15 years, he will stay in this room unaware of the identity and the motives of his kidnappers and with only a TV set as companion. Once released, lead by the desire of vengeance, Dae-su starts his investigation. He meets Mi-do, a young girl who'll take care of him and help him in his search.
Dae-su Oh's kidnapper is Woo-jin Lee, one of his old schoolmates. One day in school, Dae-su had spied on Woo-jin making love to his own sister Yoo and spread the world around him. When Yoo, unable to bear the rumor, committed suicide, Woo-jin Lee decided to take revenge on Dae-su.
