| Review Summary and Plot Commentary about Kansas City |
Kansas City is like most of Robert Altman other films; the nuances of the relationships between multiple characters than a simple straight plotline. Jennifer Jason Lee stars as Blondie O'Hara, the wife of a petty thief Johnny O'Hara (Dermot Mulroney) who wants to get her husband back. With the the help of a black cab driver Blue Green (Martin Martin), Johnny sets up a wealthy black man headed to Seldom Seen's (Harry Belafonte) jazz club. Johhny painted his face to look like a black man and jumped into the cab while it stopped and took the mans money. Seldom gets an earful from the crime victim and smacks Blue around until he finds out it was Johnny. Meanwhile, Blondie has hatched a plan to kidnap Carolyn Stilton (Miranda Richardson), the wife of a prominent politician. Blondie drags Carolyn all around town as she tries to get in touch with Carolyn's husband who was on a train, in hopes of brokering a deal with Seldom to free Johnny. Blondie's plan almost works but both Johnny and Blondie meet an untimely demise.
