Review Summary and Plot Commentary about Life and Nothing But
LIFE AND NOTHING BUT (La Vie et rien d'autre) is a French film co-written and directed by Bertrand Tavernier in 1989. This movie earned two French Academy Awards in 1990, in the Best Actor (Noiret) and the Best Music categories.

Two years after the end of WWI, Major Delaplane is still trying to identify some of the more than 350,000 unidentified soldiers left by the war. One day, he makes the acquaintance of Irčne de Courtil, a woman searching for her missing husband in the numerous military hospitals of France. Delaplane will try to help her in this quest as though he's convinced that Irčne's husband has died during the war.
