| Review Summary and Plot Commentary about Drums Along the Mohawk |
DRUMS ALONG THE MOHAWK is a Darryl F. Zanuck production directed by John Ford in 1939.
The year is 1776. Gil Martin and his wife get married in New-York and leave on the same day in order to reach the Mohawk valley where Gil has built a cabin in the woods. They are right at the Frontier and they unfortunately have to watch soon their possessions devastated by the Mohawk tribe which has become an ally of the Tories, the British resistance who are at war with the new confederation.
A few months later, Gil and Lana have been hired as farmers by Mrs. McKlennar whose farm hasn't been destroyed by the Indians. But soon, the Mohawks, under British officer Caldwell's command, attack again. The whole population of farmers must then seek refuge into the local fort which is besieged by the Mohawks. Gil Martin will try to get out of the fort at night and reach the confederation army before it's too late.
