| Review Summary and Plot Commentary about Madagascar |
Marty, the zebra, has conflicting emotions whether to return to the wild, after hearing about the penguins' escape plan. Alex, the lion, is strongly opposed to the wild, because he loves to bask in the limelight the humans throw on him every day. Eventually, Marty escapes anyway, and thus starts the adventure.
After a nauseating voyage that ends in the animals' crates falling overboard, the animals find themselves in an island uninhabited by humans. As they make their way inland, they discover a colony of partying lemurs, headed by King Julian. They sing, dance, and move to the beat of "I Like to Move It." It is very funny to see how they act towards their new visitors. After witnessing Alex scare off their feared predators, the lemurs decide to keep Alex around.
The penguins (who hadn't fallen overboard) steal the show temporarily when they try to take over the ship to the theme of "Mission Impossible." Once they gain control of the ship, it's off to Antarctica.
Alex, deprived of his beloved steak, takes a turn for the worst and tries to eat his friends. For the rest of the movie, Marty tries to turn Alex back to the good side.
