| Review Summary and Plot Commentary about The Hurricane |
THE HURRICANE, based on Rubin 'Hurricane' Carter's best selling novel "The 16th Round" and Sam Chaiton's "Lazarus and the Hurricane" is a movie directed by Norman Jewison in 1999. Denzel Washington earned several awards (Berlin, Golden Globe) for his performance.
Rubin 'Hurricane' Carter was one of boxing's best middleweight contenders when he was arrested for murder in 1964 and sentenced to life imprisonment. He always claimed his innocence, wrote a book in prison about his life but lost all his trials and appeals. The film presents highlights of Carter's dazzling career. A young Canadian black boy, Lesra Martin, reads Carter's biography and decides to meet the boxer in prison. Soon, Lesra's friends, convinced of Carter's innocence, reopen the case, find pieces of evidence showing that a police inspector forged false proofs against Carter to frame him, and finally submit the file to the Supreme Court at the end of the 80's.
