Review Summary and Plot Commentary about Necessary Roughness
After the Texas State University football team is caught up in a devastating recruitment scandal, they lose all of their star players and scholarships and coaches must look to ordinary students to fill the squad.

The new team includs quarterback Paul Blake, a 34-year-old college freshman, a female field goal kicker, a 400 pound Samonian center, a black belt middle linebacker and Sinbad, a former football player turned astrology teacher. Coached by “Straight Arrow” Ed Gennero, the Fighting Armadillos lose most of their first few games by over 40 points.

Even though they are a horrible team, they do not get any breaks because the dean of students is looking for them to miserably fail.

And if being a 34-year-old college football player couldn't be hard enough, Blake starts to fall in love with his journalism professor, who is reluctant to get in a relationship with him because of his status.

Even though the team should not be a contender in any game, they pull together by the leadership of Blake and prepare for their final game against the number one ranked Texas Colts.
