| Review Summary and Plot Commentary about Before and After |
BEFORE AND AFTER is a movie directed by Barbet Schroeder in 1995.
A young girl has been found murdered in the woods and the police believes that Jacob Ryan (Furlong), her 16 years old boy-friend, did it. Jacob has disappeared and his father Ben (Neeson) finds a bloody jack and incriminating evidence in the trunk of his son's car. Ben destroys the evidence.
A few days later, Jacob is arrested and the Ryans ask Panos Demeris to be Jacob's lawyer. Jacob refuses at first to talk about the events but he finally avows his responsibility in his girlfriend's death to his parents. Martha Taverner and Jacob had a fight and the young man pushed Martha who accidentally fell right on the jack and died. Now Carolyn Ryan would like Jacob to tell the truth to the judge but, as there aren't any direct proofs against his son, Ben doesn't want to run the risk; the Grand Jury could refuse to believe Jacob's version of Martha's death.
