| Review Summary and Plot Commentary about Candleshoe |
Lady St. Edmund (Helen Hayes) is an elderly woman who lives in a country manor in England with a horde of children and her butler, Priory. When a crook named Harry Bundage discovers that Lady St. Edmund's home is the site of a horde of buried treasure, he sets a plan in motion to seize the treasure. Enter Casey Brown (Jodie Foster), an orphan that Harry enlists to help find the treasure. Casey's mission is to trick Lady St. Edmund into believing that she is her long lost granddaughter. Harry believes that once she is living at the manor Casey will be able to find the missing treasure. Once Casey is living at the manor and brought under Lady St. Edmund's wing she starts to feel that she finally has a family. When it is revealed that Lady St. Edmund is flat broke the kids and Priory band together to help in the upkeep of their home. As Casey starts getting more comfortable in her new home she worries that her deception will be revealed.
