Jody (played by the singer Tyrese) is an unemployed, 20 year old African American male skirting all the major responsibilities in his life. Jody is living in his Mama's house despite the fact that he has fathered two kids by two different women. Jody is living a lie because he is still messing around with both women. Although Jody's mother Juanita (played by A.J. Johnson) enables him to remain a "baby boy" she is constantly striving for a better life for herself and encouraging him to do better. When Juanita meets Melvin (played by Ving Rhames) and moves him into her house, a power struggle emerges between Jody and Melvin. Jody struggles with his choices as he crosses paths with criminal minded individuals.
