| Review Summary and Plot Commentary about Whipsaw |
Whipsaw stars Myrna Loy as Vivian Palmer, one third of a group of thieves. The movie opens up with Robert W. Wadsworth buying the worlds most expensive pearls worth an estimated one million dollars from a dealer in Paris. Meanwhile, Ed Dexter (Harvey Stephens) is planing to steal the pearls. But another set of thugs wants to muscle in on Dexter's action. Wadsworth gets on a boat from France to New York and once he lands in New York the Pearls are stolen by Dexter. Wadsworth goes to the Police and Ross McBride (Spencer Tracy) goes under cover to find out where the Pearls are. McBride stages a phone scene in a bar to try and gain the confidence of Vivian in hopes that she will lead the police to the pearls. The plan works and McBride is soon escorting Vivian out of New York on a flight leaving Newark. The problem for both McBride and Vivian is that the thugs have been watching her night and day in the same hopes Vivian will lead them to the pearls. But along the both Vivian and McBride fall in love and through it all they stick by each other.
