Review Summary and Plot Commentary about Hello, I Am Your Aunt
This Russian movie is loosely based on Brandon Thomas's play “Charley's Aunt.” While running from the police, a poor homeless man Babbs (Alexandr Kaliagyn) stumbles across a box of fine lady's clothes and dresses up as a woman. The police, still suspicious about this “woman,” keeps following him, so he enters a rich estate hoping to fool the cops and quietly sneak out through the back door.

The estate belongs to Sir Francis Chesney (Mikhail Kozakov), and the Chesney family happens to be expecting a rich aunt who has lived in Brazil for many years, so no one actually knows how she looks. Babbs is mistaken for Donna Rosa, the millionaire aunt. He plays in, covering his mustache with a fan, but is eventually discovered by Sir Francis's son and his friend. The young men are angered; they hoped that “Donna Rosa” would help them to obtain permission to marry the girls they love, two beautiful wards of the mean Judge Criggs (Armen Dzhigarkhanyan), and now their hopes are shattered. But, having given it some thought, they decide that maybe not so. They offer Babbs a choice of being given up to the police or to stay in the house and continue to pose as Donna Rosa and work on Judge Criggs, convincing him to allow his wards to get married. Babbs agrees.

Trouble starts when both Criggs and Sir Francis decide to marry the Brazilian millionaire and start courting “her.” Then the real Donna Rosa arrives. Surprised to see the impostor, she temporarily hides her own identity and observes things, once in a while confusing Babbs with tricky questions.
