| Review Summary and Plot Commentary about Helen of Troy |
Based on Homer's The Iliad, HELEN OF TROY is a movie directed by Robert Wise in 1956.
Thirty centuries ago, Troy, on the Turkish coast, was a flourishing city envied by the Greek kingdoms. Pâris, one of the sons of the Troyan King Priam, would like to offer peace to the Greeks and sails to Sparta. There, he falls for Helen, King Menelaus's wife, whom he encounters on the Greek shores. Menelaus who notices his wife's love for Pâris tries to capture the Troyan emissary who manages to escape with Helen.
The Greek Kings use this excuse to unite their forces and sail to Troy for a war that will last 10 years. When the best Greek warrior, Achilles, is killed by Pâris after Hector's death in front of the fortifications of Troy, the cunning Ulysses decides to use an artifice to defeat the Troyans.
