| Review Summary and Plot Commentary about Charley's Aunt |
Two students, Charley Wyckham (Hugh Williams) and Jack Chesney (Rodney McLennan), are in love with two young ladies, Amy and Kitty. They are Mr. Spettigue (Halliwell Hobbes), a very strict guardian who won't let them see the young men. Charley and Jack find a solution: they talk their friend Babbs (Charles Ruggles) into posing as Charley's Aunt Donna Lucia from Brazil who would serve as a chaperone for their visits.
Babbs turns out to be very convincing in the role of a middle-aged woman – too convincing, in fact: both the girls guardian and Jack's father Sir Francis take an interest in “Donna Lucia” and begin courting her.
