Review Summary and Plot Commentary about Charley's Aunt (1941)
Charley Wyckham (Richard Haydn) and Jack Chesney (James Ellison), are in love with two young ladies, Amy and Kitty. They are nieces and wards of Stephen Spettigue (Edmund Gwenn), a very strict guardian who won't let them see the young men. Charley and Jack persuade their fellow student Babbs (Jack Benny) into posing as Charley's Aunt, Donna Lucia from Brazil, who would serve as a chaperone for their visits. Babbs turns out to be very convincing in the role of a woman – too convincing, in fact: both the girls guardian and Jack's father Sir Francis take an interest in “Donna Lucia” and begin courting her.
