Stan Ross (played by Bernie Mac) is a former baseball star who segued from the sports arena to the business arena after retirement. Years ago, Stan retired from baseball after successfully making it to 3,000 hits. Ever since, the moniker Mr. 3000 has been attached to his name. When it is discovered that Stan didn't actually earn 3,000 hits and is actually 3 hits away from reaching this number, Stan must return to the world of baseball in order to reach the magic number of 3,000 and be in line for induction to the Baseball Hall of Fame. Upon returning to the Milwaukee Brewers Stan discovers that returning to the game that made him a superstar isn't as easy as he thought. For starters, Stan is in his late forties, out of practice and seriously in need of conditioning. Stan is forced to deal with the gigantic ego of TRex (played by Brian J. White), the reigning superstar and homerun king of the team. TRex is cocky, tends to hog the media spotlight and trashes his teammates on air. Acting as T-Rex's mentor, Stan advises the superstar of the foolishness of his ways and advises TRex that the team needs a positive leader. TRex becomes a positive force on the team and along with Stan, motivates him team to a winning streak. Meanwhile, Mo (played by Angela Bassett), Stan's former girlfriend, is back in the picture as a on air commentator for ESPN. Mo and Stan still share a blazing attraction and have unresolved issues between them. Back in the day Mo fell hard for Stan, who cheated on her with groupies when he was on the road and couldn't commit. Although Stan wants to rekindle things with Mo, she doesn't want to run the risk of having her heart broken by Stan. Stan promises her that he's not the selfish arrogant young man she used to date. As the Brewers continue their winning streak, the teams goals don't exactly coincide with Stan's objective. Ultimately, Stan must decide if regaining his title of Mr 3000 is more important than his loyalty to his teammates.
