| Review Summary and Plot Commentary about None But The Lonely Heart |
Based on the novel by Richard Llewellyn, None But The Lonely Heart stars Cary Grant as Ernie Mott, a man who like to drift around. The movie opens up with Ernie having an argument with his mother Ma Mott (Ethel Barrymore) over his drifter lifestyle. She gives him an ultimatum -- stay and work like a man or leave. Ernie leaves and pays a visit to Aggie Hunter (Jany Wyatt) who has strong feelings for Ernie but knows he isn't the settling down type. Ernie then goes to an arcade where he meets Ada (Jane Duprez). He gets her to agree to a date after work at six O'clock. They meet and have a ferw drinks and she too falls in love with Ernie but also realizes that he is not the type of man to settle down with. After drifting around London for a while, Ernie gets the news that his mother is very sick. He then has a change of heart and goes back home to help his mother with the business. Ernie continues to see both Ada and Aggie but eventually has a falling out with his mother again over the struggles of earning a living from the poor. Ernie ultimately fall in with a criminal element and does his best to resolve his issues with his mother before her death.
