Review Summary and Plot Commentary about Games of Love and Chance
GAMES OF LOVE AND CHANCE (L'Esquive) is a French movie directed by Abdel Kechiche in 2003. This film earned four major French Academy awards in 2005 (Best Film, Best Director, Best Writing-Original and most promising actress (Sara Forestier)).

The setting is a suburban area of a big French city showing the everyday life of five French-Arab teenagers. Krimo has just broken up with his girl-friend Magalie and falls violently in love with Lydia, a girl he knows for years, the day he sees her with the dress she has to wear to play Marivaux's "Games of Love and Chance" in class.

Krimo manages to convince Lydia's stage partner to let him play the role of Arlequin in the play but the poor guy isn't talented at all and suffers a lot in front of his schoolmates during the rehearsals. As Lydia is not sure to be willing to start relatiosn with Krimo and makes him wait for her answer, Fathi, Krimo's best friend, tries to help him by forcing Lydia's friends Frida and Nanou to urge Lydia to make a decision.
